In this respect, the American Airlines-US Airways merger has limited chances of controlling airfare payable to high tilt in the industry. Although the merger could make American Airlines the biggest airline globally ( Rosenbloom, 2014), the airline will still have to face stiff competition from other major airlines both locally and internationally.Without necessarily accounting for all major airlines, American Airlines will have to face Delta, United, and Southwest airlines as far as the domestic airline industry is concerned. Managing uncertainty - Essay ExampleIn addition, millennial are more willing to take risks and highly educated compared to the earlier generations. These differences are bound to resolving in some friction at the field of studyplace, where in the past it has been noted that organizations have opted to leave them to resolve themselves. However, this is proving to be stillborn as millennial are leaving the workforce to start their own businesses and operate as consultants. Having realized their importance, organizations have to identify ways of attracting and retaining this workforce as well as ensuring they work in cohesion with the older generation (Cahill et al 2012, p.4). Popular social science has attempted to categorize the living generations into five- matures/veterans or builders, baby boomers, and the subsequent generation X, Y and Z. Presently, baby boomers, generation X and Y are the ones actively engaged in the workforce. Every generation is set with its own unique tra its with the baby boomers- born amid mid-1940s and mid-1950s, and builders- usually in their late 60s and 70s, sharing a similarity of being able to work for coarse hours in a structural manner. Whilst the rest are known for being flexible, having an increased understanding of technology and overall seeking a balanced life, the last mentioned being particularly so for generation X born between mid-1960s to early 1980s. The challenge for HR professionals lies in striking a balance between meeting the needs of an organization and the burgeoning expectations of the multigenerational workforce. Mostly, generation Y and Z desire to have a flexible work schedule that implies them not being fix to the office a whole day. Notably also, organizations are faced with the uphill task of recognizing and dealing with the competing issues of generation Y and Z and the clients/customers which may not be mutually exclusive. HR managers have to recognize and appreciate the different points of vie w held by a multigenerational workforce (Mitchell 2008, p.666). Organizations have to re-examine their needs and goals from a holistic standpoint and design a job description that will offer employees an opportunity for growth along with various responsibilities which in turn will result in them being retained and satisfied in their job. This is complicated by the fact that there will be miscommunications, misapprehensions and detachments in a multigenerational workforce, with respect to work commitment and entitlement. In addition, operational areas such as frontline employees have had to be restructured as management practices have evolved over the years and modes of communication have changed from top-down, task-based instructions to linear contemporary ways of communicating. Clerical positions have also call on unnecessary owing to efficiencies created by recent office technologies. This implies that certain positions have become redundant and employees who have been with an o rganization over a long period will need to have their prior positions reconsidered. HR managers should look to their strengths and allocate freshly responsibilities accordingly as opposed to letting them go as their experience creates an opportunity for mentorship to the younger, incoming workforce (Mosley & Kaspar 2008, p.94). Furthermore, HR managers have

In simple words, leadership is all to the highest degree the leaders those who mobilize others to get the job accomplished at bottom the organization. It reflects the practices of the leaders which they perform to transform the values into the actions, the vision of the organization into realities, the obstacles within the work into the innovations and the peril factors into the rewards. As demonstrated by Bennis & Thomas (2013) in this context, it is the leadership that creates an atmosphere where the employees face the challenge and turn the challenging situations or the opportunities into the remarkable success. Initially, I employ to perceive that leadership is all about steering people towards the determined goals. But, after going through the crucibles, I recognise that I had actually pretended between management and leadership at the theoretical level where managers are bestowed with the responsibility to direct their staff through negative and positive motivations towards predetermined goals in the short result, but leaders pursue greater responsibilities towards the sustenance of the team focusing on shared values fundamentally focusing upon the long run performances of the overall team. Being motivated by the context of Bennis & Thomas, I went through various leadership case studies, where various organizational, political as well as social leaders were assessed on the basis of their leadership qualities and the corresponding achievements. In most instances, especially when reading about the modern day organizational leaders, I found that they attempt to find logical solutions to the problems encountered within the organization. The controlling power and the directing power possessed by these lea ders have been further sight to reward them with a height in their achievements which has also been addressed in the discussion of Bennis & Thomas. According to my learning, intellectual analytical skills are quite essential for leaders to perform in the increasingly competitive environment of the 21st century wherein Bennis & Thomas reveals that leadership concepts and approaches have changed over the past few decades. This is when I realized that leadership is not at all an easy task and I needed to develop my skills immensely to reach the level already benchmarked by these leaders. The importance of customer loyalty Literature review

The importance of customer loyalty - Literature review ExampleThe study presents that every consumer desires to purchase a crossway from a brand that she/he perceives to have the best product features, images and of the best quality. It is these perceptions that bring about the products consumer loyalty. Brand loyalty begins with the purchase of the product for trials, and if the products quality is satisfactory, they effect consistent in purchasing the product. Brand loyalty is the consumers repeated intention or doings to continually repurchase the commodity. Brand loyalty is defined as the strength of preference towards a brand than other available options. Brand loyalty is determined through repeat buying and the sensitivity of the price. There ar six conditions, which define brand loyalty. These conditions can be summarized as follows the biased product purchase behavior expressed for a long duration, and the purchase has had define in consumers decision making over other a lternative product. True brand loyalty only exists when a customer have a high preference towards the brand and is only confirmed by the repetitive purchase of the product. This loyalty is said to be of considerable significance to the company. With brand loyalty, consumers ar not affected by the increase of prices. There are two approaches used in defining the loyalty construct first is the behavioral unmatchable which suggested that the loyalty of a brand is only expressed when there is repeat purchase of commodity overtime. The other approach is the attitudinal perspective, which assumes that loyalty of a brand is not necessarily determined by the consistency of its purchase, and that repetitive product purchase must be accompanied by positive attitude towards the behavior. Therefore, brand behavior is a function of both attitudes and the consumer behavior. Established consumers or those who are loyal to a brand are likely to continue buying from the company careless(predicate ) of price fluctuations of the product (Wang and Sidek, 2008). Therefore, it is indispensable for a company to establish a strong relationship with the consumer through marketing strategies such as packaging, advertising their products and producing commodities of the right on quantity and quality whish are of satisfactory to the consumer (Chi, Yeh and Yang 2009). Factors influencing the customer loyalty To start with is the product quality judgment. Product quality judgment is categorized in to two sub groups namely a) perceived quality and b) objective quality. Perceived product quality is considered as the consumers consistency purchase of the product or the benefit of a product after evaluation. It has also been defined as the recognition of a product by the user. Objective quality has been defined as the orientation of the product (Akbar and Parves, 2009). The difference between these two types of quality is that objective quality hackneyed is predesigned by a product whilst perceived quality standard is the influence by internal and external attributes of a product, which in turn affect the consumers products evaluation. It has also been pointed out that in objective quality the consumers lend oneself their experience and knowledge to grade the products advantages, durability and satisfaction (Armstrong and Kotler, 2009). Recession in the economy Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Recession in the economy - Essay ExampleHence, countries are expected to come up with various macro and microeconomic policies that spur positive growth so that their economies can recover from the menace. Such is the case in Poland if they want to redeem the situation. utilisation forms a critical development criterion in any economy and the state must find measures to spur the vice. The government should first reduce taxes on the basic goods and services as it would reduce the prices of the commodities. Consumers exit increase the number of consumption bundles and switch an extra income that they can spend on other goods. As a result, the consumption patterns increases that bring more money to manufacturers that they can invest and spur growth in the country. Another measure is by the Poland government to bequeath subsidies to the producers. The manufacturers cost of operations will be trim back hence making cheaper commodities (Auerbach, Alan and Yuriy, pg 15). This policy wi ll translate into low prices of goods and services in the market that will reduce inflation. High consumption results in more sales that lead to high revenues. The firms can hence invest the excess income making them expand and, as a result, hire more workers that reduce unemployment in the economy. Through the central bank of the country, the benchmark lending interest for loans should be reduced to commercial banks. The reduced mortgage rates would be passed to consumers and investments in the form of reduced lending by the commercial bank. More persons and firms would acquire the loan services that they invest in major parts of the country. The policy is necessary because the interest rate is inversely related to investments levels. The higher the interest rate, the lower the investment and the opposite are decline (Auerbach, Alan and Yuriy, pg 18). Therefore, due to low rates, investors will expand their production that increases the level of output within the economy. The incr eased production makes the gross domestic products to raise that makes the country have a favorable trade balance with her business partners increasing economic growth in the country.

Statistics in Business Essay Example for Free

Statistics in Business EssayThe purpose of this essay is to examine the purpose of statistics in melodic line. Our text, Lind (2011) defines statistics as The science of collecting, organizing, presenting, analyzing, and interpreting entropy to assist in making more effective decisions (p.5). Types and levels of statisticsThere are two major types of statistics, descriptive and inferential. descriptive statistics is defined by Lind (2011) as methods of organizing, summarizing, and presenting selective information in an informative way (p.6). An example of descriptive statistics would be a high school report exhibit that it had 300 potassium alums in 1990 and 450 graduates on 1991. The information that they provided described the amount of graduates that they had for each year. Inferential statistics is defined by Lind (2011) as the methods used to estimate a berth of a population on the basis of a sample (p.7). If the same high school sent come in a report showing the grad uate numbers for 1999- the present to estimate the number of graduates that they would have for this school year, those statistics would be inferential because they are used to estimate future outcomes. There are four levels of statistical data nominal, ordinal, legal separation and ratio. The nominal level deals with qualitative variables such as colors and blood types that can only be counted and classified. Ordinal data measurement is a variable rating system that ranks data according to predetermined categories that have only relative values such as poor, average, and good. information can be ranked and ordered using this method. Interval data measurement adds to the ordered level by adding the characteristic of a consistently metrical differential.A thermometer is an interval measurement tool. Differences in degrees of temperature are consistent between the level intervals. The last level of statistics is ratio-level data this is used for quantitative data recording. It buil ds upon the interval measurement by adding that point 0 is meaningful and the ratio between two numbers is meaningful (p.13). Anexample of ratio level data would be weight. A scale is calibrated at 0 and is measured in increments of one pound or kilogram to determine a persons weigh or the difference of weigh between two individuals or products. The role of statistics in businessStatistics are the lifeline of a business. A business relies on good statistical data to determine its financial standing, projecting future sales and projects, and to provide the management team with information to make rifle business decisions. When we look at statistics in the business world we are primarily concerned with their bearing on profits, investments, hours worked, and wages. The decision making process is do easier by analyzing data to determine the best course of action instead of taking uneducated risks. An example of the importance of statistics in business would be forecasting. We deep hir ed additional personnel based on historical data on first quarter sales and average call handle period of our phone staff. We took the archived data that showed how many calls were taken in our call center, the number of personnel on the phones, and the average time of each call. We used this historical information from the last three years to determine how many people we will need on the phones at any given time during first quarter. This data allowed us to be proactive in staffing and fund allocation to meet the needs of our customers and phone staff.ConclusionStatistics play a vital role in the business world. We are a smarter and more intuitive society of decision makers because of statistics. A business is more stable when the guess work is taken out of the equation and replaced with data analysis that produces sound business decisions and planning.ReferencesLind, D., Marchal, W., Wathen, S. Looking At Womens Sexuality In Cane English Literature Essay

Looking At Wo handss Sexuality In Cane English Literature EssayThe Harlem Renaissance was a succession period when the African American art and finale started to thrive. This time period many African American people started feeling more assimilated with American culture then before. The migration from the suppressed south to the north is what ushered in the Harlem Renaissance period. This was also a time where African Americans had let down their inhibitions which in turn coat the way for the culture to come through. Still, many mordant people had to go through challenging times. Many of the southern blacks had to deal with racial beatings and lynching. The author who rightfully drew a vivid picture of the lives of southern black people was Jean Toomer. Toomer wrote his famous novel Cane at the beginning of the Harlem Renaissance which raise inspired other African American artist. In Cane, Toomer uses vibrant imagery of gallium and symbolism to show the lives of southern black people. His stories Portrait in Georgia and Georgia Dusk mention lynchings that whitened people use in attempt to show black people who the powerful race is. Other stories desire Song of the Son and Cotton Song echo the past history of slavery. One prominent theme that seems to be relevant in Cane is sex, or more prominently black womens sexuality. In the first story Karintha, Toomer tells of a girl who hands had always wantedeven as a barbarian (Toomer 1). The lust of Karintha at a young age was one so tempting that even older men wished for youth so they would have a chance with her. This changes though when She played home with a small boy who was non afraid to do her bidding (Toomer 1). This line seems to imply that Karintha married a man who could provide certain social occasions to her. Further lines that talk about the old men who remind Karintha of when they use to lust after her, mentions that she Smiles, and indulges them when she is in the mood for it, which suppor ts the fancy that Karintha has turned into a prostitute. This is also evident when Toomer explainsThe attention given to Karintha was only used for her sexuality. Ultimately, the lust for Karintha dehumanized her existence and The soul of her was a growing thing ripened too soon (Toomer 2). This quote reinforces the idea of Karintha being a prostitute. From these actions it could also be implied that Karintha had a stillborn baby when Toomer writes But Karintha is a woman, and she has had a child. A child fell out of her womb onto a bed of pine-needles in the forest (Toomer 2). At the beginning of this story, Toomer shows the innocence of a young Karintha, he then contrasted that to an older used Karintha.Another story Carma is about a black woman who is strong as any man (Toomer 10). Carmas promiscuous sexuality is what ultimately lands her economise in a chain gang. The story goes on to explain that Carma has an extramarital affair She had others. No one blames her for that (Too mer 11). She might not be blamed for that, but she is blamed after her preserve finds out about the affair. This leads to Carma shooting herself to gain more sympathy from him. This does nothing but anger her husband who states Twice deceived, and one deception proved the other, then kills a man next to him (Toomer 11). Toomer portrays Carma as somewhat of a she devil for her promiscuous sexuality that angers her husband who ends up serving his time.Toomer shows the opposite of the sexual promiscuity in the last two stories with Fern. Fern is a black woman whose body is sexualized by other men but she purposefully remains a virgin. bit men thought that Ferns eyes said to them that she was easy, really she did not feel obliged to satisfy their needs. Men could not believe that she would not have them and A sort of superstition crept into their consciousness of her being somehow above them. Being above them meant that she was not to be approached by anyone. She became a virgin (Toom er 14). It the story it says that while being a virgin is normal, not wanting to reproduce is not and that black folks were make to mate (Toomer 15). It could be assumed that Fern is portrayed as a Madonna, which would coincide with a line in another one of Toomers stories that mentions a Negress who drew a portrait of a black Madonna on the courthouse wall (Toomer 21). After the narrator spend time with Fern, he breaks down the real Fern who ended up fainting in his arms. The men in the town hear about this and the narrator is given dirty looks because they felt he had in some way menace their black Madonna. Toomer uses vivid images of the landscape in the story. At the end, he connects Fern with the detailed landscape.Toomers next story Esther, is a about a black girl who looks corresponding a little white child (Toomer 20). Through the story Esther badly wants to associate herself to the black culture but finds it tight because she is lighter and her dad is the richest black p erson in town. Esther in not portrayed as a black temptress like in the other stories in Cane she is considered not attractive. Esther aspirations of being accepted into the black culture. In one, she dreams there is a fire in the town which could be seen as a metaphor for her desire. When the fire starts the women ostentate in all directions leaving Esther with a baby who is Black, signed, woolly, tobacco-juice baby-ugly as misdeed. Once held to her breast, miraculous thing its breath is sweet and its lips can nibble (Toomer 22). This can be interpreted as Esther thinking that she needs a dark clamber baby to feel less light skinned. While the people in her dream might see the baby as ugly, she sees it as her bond to darker skin, forgetting her own color. Esther knows that men do not notice her and even says I dont appeal to them. I wonder why (Toomer 22). This is when her obsession with a black man named Barlo begins because it helps her forget she is lighter. She wants to offe r herself to Barlo so she will be able to conceive her dark skinned child she had dreamed of, thus becoming more darkened. When Barlo returns to town she seeks to meet him face to face to give her body to him which does not turn out sound as he recognizes her lighter skin tone. With the failed disappointment Esther tells herself The thought comes suddenly, that conception with a drunken man must be a mighty sin (Toomer 25). Her dreams to reproduce with Barlo failed, she becomes completely disembodied. At the end of this story, the town disappears along with her dreams. While the men in African American culture tried so hard to get away from the view that white people had, believing black people to be over sexualized beings, Toomer portrayed his black women just as that. While there has been a social stigma surrounding the false belief that African American women are over sexualized, some of the stories such as Karintha, Carma, and Fern do nothing to discredit that belief. Granted, t his was not a stronger theme in these stories that lynching or slavery was. That being said, the Harlem Renaissance period was a time when white people had started to notice African American art and Toomer tried to accurately display the real lives of African Americans in Cane.

Gender Stereotypes in Advertising

Gender Stereotypes in AdvertisingThe term sexual activity stereotype is used to harbinger a set of beliefs held about the characteristics, traits, behaviours and roles that, within a specific culture, are considered soci in all toldy appropriate for men and women. This publicizing for Gardenburgers found in the August 1997 variation of the American magazine Vegetarian Times is reminiscent of the advertising of the 1950s. In this post World War II era, gender stereotyping was common in advertising. The emphasis was on male superiority and feminine domesticity and submissiveness. These stereotypes restricted men and woman to predetermined roles. Roles which, especially for women, were often degrading and humiliating.Far from reinforcing the stereotypical gender representations of men and women during this era, this advertisement is, in fact, portraying the antithesis of these traditionalistic stereotypes. It denounces the stereotype of the ideal woman of the 1950s, whose whole id entity revolved around her theatre, her husband and her appearance. This advertisement turns the tables on man. It emasculates him and creates a perturbing little life for him in which, just uniform the women of the 1950s, he subordinates his interests to those of his wife. The hidden intent of this advertisement is to show that just as we should not accept how media constructs and reinforces traditional ideas about women and femininity and men and masculinity, we should not accept that the backyard barbecue is only complete with a traditional meat burger. Just as it is about clipping that the traditional gender stereotype that empowered men be replaced by a new gender stereotype that empowers women, it is about time that the traditional all American, all meat burger be replaced by the all natural, all vegetable Gardenburger. This advertisement is a satirical look at gender stereotyping. The play on gender stereotypes, the reversal of gender roles is seen in the image used, the publicise and the content of the copy. The stereotypical American Dream, created in the 1950s, was to marry the perfect someone, to have a house in the suburbs complete with a white picket fence, an average 2.2 children, a dog and a cat, and to spend weekends in the backyard barbecuing. The image in the advertisement is mean to depict this American dream. You can almost see the white picket fence. While the proverbial man of the 1950s was bringing home the bacon, his wife was prep it. The stereotypes in advertising in the 1950s limited the role of the woman. She was portrayed as the caring m otherwise, the serving housewife, eager to please, without looking too intelligent. She was pretty and powerless, and she was commonly placed in a subordinate position to her husband. However, in this image the stereotypical gender roles have been reversed. It is the man that has been domesticated. He is weak and innocent. With a humbly, obedient, unappealing mouthed, little smile on his fac e his ultimate goal is to be a good husband. His place is in the home, cooking and cleaning for his family. The woman, on the other hand, is displaying more active behaviour, a confident, opened mouthed smile and wave of the hand, she is exercising more authority. As if having an authoritarian wife is not emasculating enough, he is portrayed carrying a cooking utensil. All he is missing is his pinny. The theme of advertising in the 1950s was one of contentment and complacency. Despite the degrading portrayal of women, and the disrespectful musical note of many of the advertisements, the image conveyed was one of the perfect all American family where both mummy and daddy were happy in the roles society had assigned them. In this advertisement, the head cable system Fred and Fran are so happy is parodying this idea. Satire is used here to show us that, in fact, in all is not well in the world, the line is even repeated at the end of the copy to high unwarranted this contradiction. Eve n if they are having a BBQ, Fred and Fran should not be happy in an environment where gender inequalities exist. Just as the consumer should not be happy in an environment where animals are not respected, especially when meatless Gardenburgers are available wherever frosty foods are sold. Finally, the content of the copy in this advertisement continues the satirical look at the gender inequality of advertising in the 1950s, where women were portrayed as preposterous and infantile, men as dominant and macho. The copy in this advertisement is a far cry from the 1950s the foot is now on the other shoe. jibe to our modern day susceptibility, the tone of the copy is actually quite condescending and offensive. However, just as the women in advertising in the 1950s were more like objects to be looked at, rather than intelligent people to be talked to, in this advertisement it is the mans turn to be dumbed down. How, if he is considered too stupid to hold a job, is inadequate Fred expec ted to understand that it is possible to have burgers with no meat? From her position as provider, protector, and boss of the home Fran tells him to shut up and eat it already and in his role as the perfect, submissive husband, always wanting to please his wife Fred always listens to Fran/He eats and eats and eats. The colour and bold type in the first line of the copy Fred lights the fire Fran claps her hands continues this idea of gender inequality. Fran condescendingly claps her hand as she is so amazed that Fred can actually light a fire. This advertisement is trying to counter stereotyping by using satire to ridicule the stereotypes that are so prevalent in advertising. Media uses stereotypes as a lively way of getting an audience to understand a person or a group of people based on their class, race, gender, social class and/or occupation. However, by doing so they maintain social prejudices and inequalities. The Gardenburger advertisement wants to open the consumers eyes to t he dangers of stereotyping. The advertisers hope that by using satire, irony, ridicule and exaggeration consumers will question stereotypes in advertising and think about healthy alternative advertisements that promote fairness and equality. Just as they are proposing a healthy alternative to the traditional all meat burger, which for decades the food industry has encouraged us to eat despite the dangers for our health.ReferenceWholesome Hearty Food, Inc.
